adamchapman Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Hi Guys, I'm looking around for NAS boxes at the minute and wondered if anyone has had any experience of QNAP. I've found an 8TB box with Dual Gigabit for £900, just thought it might be a bit on the cheap and nasty side??? When a Netgear for example is £1,800 for a similar storage capacity
pete Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Unless you're looking at the home user stuff, that box probably doesn't have disks included. I suspect the Netgear does. IME (TS-239 Pro at home, about to buy a bigger one for replacement remote backup at work) they kick arse, but they are reassuringly expensive. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com has reviews of most nas hardware.
adamchapman Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 cheers. See the thing worrying me is that they do come with drives! I just can't work out why they're se cheap! QNAP TS-419U Turbo NAS - NAS - 8 TB - rack-mount... - TS-419U/8TB at Insight UK

Historically, the 419 line has been underpowered compared to the 439 line and it's using a Marvell 1.2 GHz, which makes me wonder. Try to get benchmarks for sustained write performance. There's some general nas benchmarks, but that model isn't mentioned: NAS Performance Comparison Charts - 1000 Mbps Average Write Performance
