bewlay51 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Hello All, I am using desktop redirection to product a controlled set of shortcuts to my students. I have configured a simple desktop layout of how I would like the desktop to look and will need to add shortcuts as required (see screen shot). What I need to do is configure the same desktop layout for all users, i.e. the shortcut icons are all in the same place for each user and if they move them about the screen the next time they log on they are in the same place again. Is this possible via a GPO or other method? The desktop OS will be a mix of Win7 and Win XP. The server is 2008 R2. Many thanks.... John
Crispin Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 From what I understand this can be done by configuring a default user profile. This should save all settings and layouts(?) for all users. Microsoft KB here: How to customize the default local user profile when you prepare an image of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003
6Foot2 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 The desktop we give our Staff and Students is always the same when they logon, although they can move the icons around the desktop while logged on the chages are lost when the logoff. We do not specify where on the desktop the icons appear and so they are aligned on the left hand side of the screen from the top going down in a column. We use Group Policy to redirect the desktops to shared folders on the server. Works well for us and for many others I am sure.
