Hello all,

We keep getting the following error on a few of our laptops when using SIMS.net over our wireless network, does anyone have any ideas?

The wireless connection doesn't drop and is excellent throughout the SIMS.net failure.

Could it be a SQL Server 2005 problem and if so any ideas? Not being great on the technical side of things your help is much appreciated!

Nope, we don't get this issue on any of our wired PCs with SIMS.net.

However, the wireless connection is excellent and the AP is in the actual room that this laptop is having issues in.

Good morning Toby,

Remember me from the SIMS desk? How's things with you up there?

I found this on the Capita site - I hope it means something to you!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Notes "Server or Database not exist ErrMsg: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Advice Please ensure that you are entering the correct SQL server details.

Please also ensure that TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled.

To Enable TCP/IP and Named Pipes, please do the following:

Before doing the following, please ensure that all users are out of SIMS .net

To resolve the problem, please do the following on the Server:

Click Start

All Programs

Microsoft SQL Server 2005

Configuration Tools

SQL Server Surface Area Configuration

Click Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections

From the instance list, please click Remote Connections under the Database Engine for the correct instance

Click Local and remote connections

Click Using both TCP/IP and named pipes

Click Apply

Click ok to the message

Click the Service

Click Stop

Click Start

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Regards,

Stuart Hawkins (previously of your SIMS desk)
