ballywholan Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Hi, Does anyone know if this (the portal thing to supplant WIRED) is in place and working now? If not, is there a timetable for the demise of WIRED? Thanks.
kmount Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Work has started on the Notts Portal under EMBC here but it still links to WIRED so I can't imagine they've made the transition yet nor can speculate on timings I'm afraid. Might be worth looking someone up on the new portal and asking them? Sorry I can't provide anything else. 1
ballywholan Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 Thanks for that. I have also found an online form on the Notts ICT Services website "to create a single new user for the EMBC portal," I shall see what results from that and I'll see if I can find anything out next week. I was just momentarily concerned that I might have been looking the other way at a crucial moment and missed out on exciting developments ;-) Thanks again.
kmount Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Good luck. We (Northamptonshire) are quite far through the adoption of the platform from a users perspective as we make use of the "portal based" Netsweeper provision from EMBC and to allow differing access levels for Staff / Students. As far as learning platform development goes (or doesn't go) Northants contracted this out to a separate company.
Edu-IT Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 On a similar note, why do all the portal sites look awful?
ballywholan Posted January 31, 2009 Author Report Posted January 31, 2009 Hi, in case anyone is interested. I have now (via New User for EMBC portal - including email address | ICT Services ) got an account on (what I believe to be!) the EMBC / Notts portals - with OWA as well! The Notts "Gateway" thing that I log into has "My Site" and "My LA" sections. The My LA section takes you to https://portal.notts.embc.uk.com , and there doesn't appear to be any / much activity on there at all. The My Site (Sharepoint) section is detailed here for the (more attractive) Leics version. I suspect it will be helpful for teacher colleagues who haven't yet managed to identify alternative (already existing) ways of providing this functionality. The calendar only works with OE >6. (The address book is filled with what appears to be the imported/migrated Mirapoint email orphaned accounts, including what appear to be pupil accounts for entire classes of children with full names from named schools.) I can half remember from the migration briefing that the WIRED license was renewed for only another year so presumably there will have to be some movement with this.
Edu-IT Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Awful how? They're looking a lot better now but at one stage the portals looked as if the person writing the announcements had been let loose with the WYSISWG editor in that they had large fonts, strange colour choices etc.
