Lee_K_81 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 We have gone with a 3rd party MS Sharepoint solution. I would like to keep our exchange email server on site but have sharepoint look into it. I know the standard webparts will connect to our server and ask us for our username / password. Is there any other webpart that can do this but store the username and password? Either that or some sort of SSO solution would be good, but i wont have access to the 3rd party servers. Any ideas?
apearce Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 I don't think there are any programs out there for single sign on in that way. See if the provider is offering anthing like that. It could be done with SIF but doubt you will get anywhere. 2
zag Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Yep dont think there is anything, why not go with a local sharepoint site? It's much more integrated and versatile. 1
Lee_K_81 Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) An on-site VLE is my suggestion, however SLT in their infinate wisdom have gone with an external one. SSAT are paying and we get lots of content included which was the clincher, i think. Edited February 11, 2008 by Lee_K_81
GrumbleDook Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 The problem with an internal exchange box and an external sharepoint box is what you do about email. I presume the extarnal box has exchange on (and probably OCS 2008 after around May / June) ... and so you start to get presence management. This side of it looks as if it could be really handy, but you are still left with what do you do about email. I am trying to see if there is an easy way to bulk setup mail forwarding rules for each user with a solution we have ... this would solve the issue for a lot of schools until they decide whether to go with one or the other. The other thing to look at is once you have mail forwarding rule setup, you need to make sure that the 'email' tab (if available) is a link to your internal boxes. 1
Lee_K_81 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 Exchange is on the box and it would be possible to set up auto forwarding to the next boxes, but we have only had our internal exchange box for 18 months. Dont want it to go to waste. My main concern is that we're being held over a barrel if the terms change. Moving staff mailboxes over, only to move them back in 12 months would be a complete PITA.
