Currently Tescos is closed here (good job building the store in the lowest-lying part of town on an island between a drainage dyke and the river) and will soon be underwater if June was anything to go by.

As I drink my coffee, I hear the mournful wail of flood sirens and I'm just nipping home to see how my section of the river is doing.

Just asked the music teacher why she has got her umberella up indoors. Waters pouring in over her suit of computers so shes sat there trying to cover them lmao

Just going to check on the main computer suit as that usually gets abit damp.

Nope, the Bristol channel would have to rise by about 20 meters to hit me, but that would mean that Bristol, Cardiff etc... would also be wiped out.

We did have a person almost beaten to death in town yesterday though. So, it isn't all sunshine and flowers here.

Always good to end the post on a good note ;)

Don't think I'm in any risk of flooding, if i were I could always escape back to my hometown in the pennines ;)

The river is very high, but the town benefits from a flood barrier which usually keeps us dry (if flooding the villages either side of us)

My son looked like he'd been swimming rather than playing rugby at the weekend though!

@Geoff... you don't stand much hope in Lancashire... I went to Lancaster Uni and swear it didn't stop raining for the entire first term i was there! As a Yorkshire lass, I was used to being in the shadow of the Pennines where it was a lot drier! :)

Floods don't affect us as such, the buildings remain dry, the problem is the roads close and it's an extra 15-20mins on my commute every day to divert around.

I didnt think we would ever be at risk until that day last July when there was waist deep water gushing past the school

It only ever got into underground parts of the school though, so unless it happens again but even worse, we will be alright. In fact I think the school was one of the few buildings in the surrounding estates that didnt get totally flooded

Looking fine at the minute though, it has been raining but nothing like as much as other areas. However last time we didnt get flooded by a river, it was by a deluge from higher ground, so another day of rain like July 20th and the same would probably happen again

Was close last week, luckily it was low tide. Had it not been it could have gotten soggy round about but not here. Town was flooded back in 2001 and apparently the highest it got was to the bottom of the field and the other side of the road. In comparison to other parts of the town, the rail station looked like a canal & houses were up to second floor, we were lucky. Servers were moved off the floor though, just in case.

As I have to travel the A1(M) and M62 to get to my schools I opted to turn around and return home after forging two flooded sections of the Wath by-pass and a local road (and we're high up!) so I expect there's problems afoot albeit small ones.

we've had quite a bit of snow today but the school remained open whereas a lot of the local primaries closed.

Its now raining pretty hard and with the prospect of -4 degrees in the morning its not going to be fantastic driving conditions when it starts to freeze up.

As long as the M25 stays open, I don't care about the weather for rest of this week. I just need to be able to get to my course (I paid the majority of the course fee with my own money!)

4 days away from school! :D My mobile will be switched OFF except at breaks!
