We have a bizarre scenario where you may have a device, for example a laptop... user logs on everything is great and then randomly they will get in Edge and Chrome a message that says "Hmmmm your internet access is blocked"... But if you open up firefox you can browse the internet no problem... but then the device almost slowly dies and looses all connectivity. A reboot sorts it and the issue might go away, but then randomly happen again in a couple of days... or even a week later.

Our set up is Windows 11, Panda 360, Lightspeed, and the basics, nothing fancy. Mainly Asus laptops, although the same issue happens on desktops, surface devices, lenovos dells etc

We have performed Driver updates, bios updates, firmware updates, rebuilt devices.... just when you think ... looks like we cracked it, it pops its head up again.

First time posting, so apologies if I get some stuff wrong.

We've been getting increase reports from our teachers when moving between classrooms they lose all USB peripheral access (mainly mouse and keyboard). Currently the only sure fix has been a restart, but this irks some of them.

We have played around with the USB selective suspend settings, and this has had a positive effect for some but not others.

Has anyone had an experience like this or any thoughts?

Campus wide we are using HP Elitebook 840 G6 with 2013 HP ultraslim dock, all are on Win 11 25H2 and were refreshed over the summer break.

"Error trying to get OneDrive settings" after user rename.

https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/227251-error-trying-to-get-onedrive-settings-after-user-rename/?do=findComment&comment=2034288

Having a bit of a panic attack while trying to sort this one.

Renamed a user who either got married or divorced over the summer, and it's something I've done numerous times without issue but this time after the rename, they can't access their OneDrive and I get "Error trying to get OneDrive settings" if I try to access it via 365 admin.

I've gone into SharePoint admin and verified that their personal folder still exists as far as that tells me but if I try to access the personal folder, I get "404 FILE NOT FOUND". I've tried renaming the user back but it's not changing the account name or personal site URL back and I've tried removing the OneDrive licence and adding it back in.

Reason for the panic attack? We have no backups of any of our 365 tenant anymore. We did have Barracuda until January of this year where the trust stopped paying for it because it was deemed "too expensive" and there hasn't been any budget to buy any sort of replacement for it. We did also have access to our backup archive until yesterday when they'd sent an email informing us that we'd be losing it all. So you can imagine how I might be feeling right around now. 😢

Lenovo Android Tablets (as an iPad alternative, Intune managed)

https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/227250-lenovo-android-tablets-as-an-ipad-alternative-intune-managed/?do=findComment&comment=2034287

Due to the recent iPad price rises, that were already slightly out of our reach before the increase (and a potential 1:1 device deployment across primary and secondary schools), we started looking at Android tablets (1/2 price of an iPad). Not an easy decision, as we already have 500+ Intune managed iPads, but schools can't afford them moving forward.

Intune Android management with the Microsoft Managed Home Screen app seems to be working well. It's easy to lock down devices, supports Microsoft 365 account authentication, and offers single sign-on, although that can be a bit hit and miss. Not really an issue on 1:1 devices, but it can be more problematic in a shared device setup. We chose Lenovo Tab K11 Gen 2 model because the specification and price is reasonable and it supports palm rejection.

Is anyone using Android tablets at a larger scale? How have you found them?
Is anyone using the Lenovo Tab K11 Gen 2?

What is the battery life like after few months of usage?

Experience with Lenovo devices lifespan and reliability?

Today, both ChatGPT and Claude both halted whist doing some image work telling me I'd ran out of credits\free usage time, even though these were quite simple tasks, and I haven't used them in several days, and I know that ZeroHour uses these quite heavily and it seems very random in how much you can or cannot get out of it at any given time.

 Welcome to Roeadean

Roedean is an extraordinary school on an extraordinary site – the girls play cricket and hockey with the sea’s blue in front of them and the green of the South Downs behind them, the Maths and Humanities classrooms have perhaps the best views of any in the country, and which other boarding houses have been likened to a boutique hotel? But it is not just the location, but the strong academic focus with a genuine belief in the importance of creativity and an all-round education that makes Roedean unique. This is an exciting time for Roedean which is marking the 141th anniversary of the foundation of the School, although it moved to its current site in 1898. Ever since its foundation, Roedean has been renowned for providing girls with an exceptional holistic education, and this certainly remains the case today: the girls excel in many fields, achieving excellent academic results, while also playing music beyond diploma level, debating in the Oxford Union finals, playing Netball in Sri Lanka, and throwing themselves into partnership work in the community and beyond. Students achieve Advanced 1 in Ballet, design and race their F24 electric car, exceptional artists can finish A Level Art in a year and then complete a certificated foundation year before applying for direct entry Art degrees, and over the last two years, two students have successfully solo swimming across the Channel to France. The School numbers around 400 students, and about half of that number are day girls, joined by boarders from over 40 countries. Roedean is clearly thriving and, in addition to the evident success in the Arts and particularly STEM subjects, as well as in many areas of school life beyond the curriculum, it is wonderful that the findings of our last three ISI Inspection reports in 2016, 2021, and 2025 all highlighted the excellence in Roedean provision and outcomes for students. Despite current pressures, it is clear that the School is in fine fettle, and where it will be in the coming years is an exciting prospect. Roedean really is a great place to work – we hope that you would like to join us.

I can't see anything from Microsoft to suggest this is an expected change?

Microsoft confirms KB5002914 Excel update breaks copy and paste

https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/227234-microsoft-confirms-kb5002914-excel-update-breaks-copy-and-paste/?do=findComment&comment=2034183

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-september-kb5002914-security-update-breaks-excel-copy-and-paste/

Servers

https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/227233-servers/?do=findComment&comment=2034177

Hi All,

Up to, I believe, Android 15 it seems quite easy - forgo the CA certificate, provide username and password and remove "anonymous" from the anonymous identity and everything connects hunky dory.

Iphones are even less hassle - username, password, trust the smoothwall certificate. end of. However on newer devices and Samsungs, it won't progress without either using a system certificate or installing one, adding yet another step.

It's easy to say I'd love to ditch BYOD and I still think it's days are numbered but mobile signal round here is non existent. I'd also love to be able to leverage the options in Cambium but.... we all know why that's probably not worth pursuing at the moment.

So for certificates, what exactly are others doing please?

I've tried using system certificate and our local domain but that doesn't work, and not a clue what actual certificate to provide for connecting in the first place. Documentation to this effect seems to be all over the shop and my brain hurts

HP computers

https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/227231-hp-computers/?do=findComment&comment=2034168

Hi all,

We have noticed that several of our HP computers have been running very sluggishly recently. It is unclear if this is related to a recent update or a hardware issue, and because it is only affecting certain HP machines, it has been difficult to pinpoint the cause.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue following recent updates? Any insights would be appreciated so we can identify the root cause.

	Thanks

Office 365 App, licences not being recognised on Home networks

https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/227230-office-365-app-licences-not-being-recognised-on-home-networks/?do=findComment&comment=2034164

Hi there,

Over the past week or so we have had a number of users with issues using 365 apps on their home connections, it's not recognising that they have a licence or if they try to sign in they get error messages about connecting to their account (see image below).

All of our users are A3 licenced, however it doesn't happen when they are connected to the school network and works fine. As soon as they connect to their home network or a hotspot the error happens again.

Has anyone encountered anything like this before ?

Bromcom - 2 day structures possible?

https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/227228-bromcom-2-day-structures-possible/?do=findComment&comment=2034156

Is it possible to have more than one period/day structure?

We have an AP that has a different schedule, but this is causing issues with staff timetables as the periods do not line up. Scomis, our support provider, say no. I have read snippets here and there that say yes, but do not elaborate. Is this possible? We can't be the only school to have an alternative provision on a different timetable. Our "timetabler" has washed his hands of it so it falls to IT as per usual
