European Characters Toolbar for MS Word
=======================================
This provides an extra menu and toolbar for European characters. You can simply highlight a letter, or type it and click a button to add an accent. Includes all characters for French, Spanish, German, Welsh and Greek. Plus, there are some extra buttons for various useful things - subscript, superscript, select all, change case, and save as. Also now provides a page footer which automatically obtains and inserts the name from the user information (username on a network), page number and date on every page. If you want to remove or edit the latter facility you can open Normal.dot in Word just like any other document (ignore any button duplication in the toolbars). Double-click inside the page footer, make any changes or delete everything, check that the print margins are correct then resave the file.

Installation
============

Find and make a backup copy of the file called 'Normal.dot' and then copy the file provided here to the same location.

The location of this file may vary so it is best to do a search for it - select Start/Find/Files or Folders. On an RM Connect Network do a search for it on P:\Apps\32BitWin.

If it is found in P:\Apps\32BitWin\Appdata\templates or similar. Open Apps.ini in the Appdata folder and increase the version number by one. All users will then receive the new normal.dot in their own appdata folder next time they log on.

The reg fragment 'Word2K_toolbar_fix.reg' will separate the Standard and Formatting toolbars in Word 2000 onto separate lines - copy the file to the folder X:\CustomRegistry\AllOS\Domain Users\ (Make sure you have allocated the Custpol package to all stations. This is available from the RM Support web site if you do not already have it.)

-----

As an alternative installation you could rename the new normal.dot to languages.dot and place it in the program startup folder. To identify this folder, run Word and click on the menu - Tools/Options/File Locations. You will then have to set up the footer by inserting the username, filename and date fields yourself as described above. This method has the benefit of allowing you to continue to use your original normal.dot with any changes that you may have already made.

-----

Another alternative - if you want to copy just the new toolbar and the associated macros from my template to your own normal.dot template - you just choose 'Tools/Templates and Add-Ins' and click the [Organizer] button at the bottom. You can work out what to do easily from there. Also copy the toolbar in the extras.dot template as this contains the other useful buttons that I have added to the other toolbars. If you then right-click on any toolbar and select 'Customize' you can then drag the buttons from the 'Extras' toolbar to where you want them on the two main toolbars and delete this toolbar. The problem with this method is that you can't copy the 'Language' menu but that is only an alternative to the toolbar. You will also then have to set up the footer yourself.

-----

Note: a 'Make PDF' button appears on the toolbar for converting MS Word documents to Adobe Acrobat format. To make this work you will need to download the pdfconv.zip package from the download site.
