  • What do I need to run the package?
    • The EduGeek Joomla package has exactly the same requirements as regular Joomla - the recommended configuration being Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP (LAMP)
  • How do I get into the backend for administration?
    • Simply append '/administrator' onto the end of the URL, e.g. www.mysite.com/administrator
  • How do you edit the "Your School Name Goes Here" logo?
    • A quick guide from krisd32:
  1. Download the latest package release and unzip it to a folder on your local computer
  2. Find a folder within this called something like 'blank headers'
  3. Edit the header template of your choice in whatever program you like then upload to the corresponding directory on your ftp server, e.g. /templates/eg_default/images
  4. NB: You need to save your file as header.png before uploading and this should automatically overwrite the existing one!

or

  1. Decide which template you wish to modify and find the folder on your server e.g if modifying eg_brown then use your ftp program to navigate to templates/eg_brown/images
  2. This folder contains the logo picture called header.png.
  3. You can either download header.png, modify it and re-upload it or create a brand new logo called header.png and use it to replace the server one instead
  4. Press refresh and voila! your new logo should be displayed


  • How do you change the size of the space for the logo?
  1. As above, decide which template you wish to modify and find the folder on your server e.g if modifing eg_brown then use your ftp program to navigate to templates/eg_brown/css
  2. This folder contains a text file called template_css.css which essentially controls the appearance of your template.
  3. Download this file to your local computer and edit it using your text editor of choice (e.g. wordpad or notepad).
  4. Look for the header section that refers to header.png and amend the width and.or the height values to suit your new requirements.
  5. Re-upload this file back to your server and press refresh in your browser to check the results.

  1. Make sure you have two tabs or windows open in your browers - one for the front page of your web site and another logged in as administrator
  2. In the administrator logged on window goto Home, Site, Template Manager, Site Templates and click on select button next to the name of your template and click on the Edit CSS button at the top right.
  3. Find the section called header that contains a reference to header.png and alter the width and height values to suit your new logo.

  • How do I manage the SmoothGallery images?
    • A quick guide from SYSMAN_MK:
  1. Log in via the backend admin account
  2. Choose SmoothGallery from the components menu
  3. Click on the upload images icon
  4. Browse to the folder /stories/smoothgallery (this has to be set to 777 via ftp)
  5. Upload your images
  6. Once you have uploaded your images go back to the smooth gallery admin page
  7. Choose album id 1 from the drop down menu - you will now see the current images used in the banner
  8. Click new from the top right menu
  9. Select one of your new uploaded images from the drop down menu
  10. Fill in the relevent info
  11. Set id to 1
  12. Choose save
  13. Then publish this new item, unpublishing the old ones if you no longer want them to show


  • How do I edit the template colour switcher?
    • Some instructions from SYSMAN_MK:

      • Remove the text to remove the colour switcher or, if you want only specific colours, just remove the ones you don't need.
  • How do I edit/reate new menus?
    • A quick guide from SYSMAN_MK using the Parents' Information section as an example:
  1. Part One
    1. Creat a new catagory either under a new or current section - Information For Parents
    2. Now create your content items and save them in your new catagory - Admissions / Assessment /Attendance etc. Order them in the order you want them to be viewd.
    3. Now use the menu manager to edit the mainmenu and add a new menu item. Choose Link - Content Item and select the first content item from yor new catagory - About Us
    4. At this point you should be able to click the new link on the main menu. This will take you to the first content item, and you can you the next / prev links to browse the content in the order you have chosen.
  2. Part Two
    1. Now you need to create your new menu to apear on the right.
    2. Using the menu create a new menu - parentsmenu
    3. It will ask you to creat a module. Give it a name you will remember - Parents Menu
    4. Now you need to create individual menu items for each content item. Create a new menu item for each content item using the Choose Link - Content Item option. - About Us
    5. Once you have done this for each content item, order the menu so it matches the order of the content items as in part one.
    6. Now you have your new sub menu you just have to publish it.
  3. Part Three
    1. Goto the Modules section and find your new menu - Parents Menu
    2. Open the module settings and make sure the module is published and to the right position.
    3. Using the menu to the right select the pages you want the menu to appear. - mainmenu|Parents / parentmenu|About Us / parentmenu|Admissions / etc
  • How do I create new RSS feeds?
    • Instructions from SYSMAN_MK:
  1. From the backend admin go to Components > RD RSS and
  2. Click New to create a new RSS Feed (see current ones for settings etc)
  3. Copy the URL given and then go to Modules > Site Modules and open "Subscribe to Our Feeds" and create a hyperlink using the RD RSS generated URL
  • How do I edit the three blocks at the bottom of the page?
    • Instructions from Ric_:
  1. The bottom three 'blocks' are called user14, user15 and user16... you can edit these and assign things to them as you please
  2. By default the content is automatically generated from the news sections
  • How do I fix the JCE Editor background problem in the default template?
    • Instructions from SYSMAN_MK:
    • Make a copy of the template css file and rename it jce_css.css. Leave this file in the CSS folder of your template folder (i.e. templates/eg_default/css/jce_css.css)
    • Edit this new css file, and change the body tag with the following:

    • Save the new file
    • Go to JCE Configuration in the JCE menu (backend admin)
    • Change the 'Template CSS Classes' setting to 'No'
    • In the 'Custom CSS Classes' type in the name of your new css file eg: jce_css.css
    • Hit Save
