• 100,000 Threads - Woohoo!!

    Wow, and we really do mean WOW! EduGeek now has over 100,000 threads gracing its myriad of forums, and this is a really major milestone for a community like ours in that the rate of thread creation is increasing, as is the membership levels far faster than we had predicted.
    So we'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who has either started a thread or posted in one. You make it all worthwhile, and without your contributions and questions, EduGeek would not have come as far as it has in the seven and a half years we have been running. So, just to celebrate here are a few figures for you to digest:


    Site Stats (taken from Google Analytics 01/01/12 - 01/01/13):

    Visits: 20,023,176
    Pageviews: 32,950,296

    Top 3 visiting countries:


    • US - 5,839,855 visits
    • UK - 5,331,900 visits
    • Australia- 912,383 visits

    • Internet Explorer - 31.70%
    • Chrome - 31.25%

    Most people on site at any one time: 2252 (On the 4th Dec 2012)

    Daily visits during a normal working day: 80,000+

    Members: 57,000+ (as of yesterday)

    Posts: 888,901

    New Members (welcome!) in the past 12 months: 14,598


    Obscure stuff:
    Whilst gathering these stats I came across some rather random things, such as the 415 Windows 98 users who browsed the site last year! But not to be outdone are the 335,342 Windows NT users still out there. I have to celebrate a tiny bit though as this is the first year we have not seen a single instance of Windows ME on the site although 544,825 visitors are still using Vista. C'mon guys!
    And not to let the Mac guys off the hook we see that 54,868 visitors were still using OSX 10.5 and even 649 non-OSX Power PC Macs were catered for.
    What was also surprising was that we had 75 members join in June 2005 when we first went live. Seeing as the site wasn’t up until the 8th June that came as quite a shock when I found this out and we now get (on average) about 1200 new members per month.

    Now it’s back to BETT preparations, and we hope to see you there at the end of the month

      I'm surprised at more visitors from the USA than from the Uk now... the Yanks obviously don't talk as much!
      @localzuk, you need to get a life More posts than both @FN-GM (who also needs to get our more!) and @Geoff.

      I'm surprised that the US has the most visits by Country. I just assumed that the UK would have been the majority viewer!

      Also, 31% using IE?! As IT professionals, I would have though that it would have been far fewer!

      mainly in school/corporate environments ies just soo much easier to manage (says someone atm using firefox)

      I use IE, 9 and 10 are fine and as above the others are all horrible to manage centrally.

      Congrats to the site and its members for creating such a community.

      We shall see what we can dig up for some further stats, but please don't bog us down with requests as we are deep in BETT preparation. To be getting along with though, try this little fact:

      We had 415 visits from Bhutan last year making it the 179th highest visiting country. We had 226 countries/regions (as define by Google Analytics) visiting the site over that period. Compare that figure for Bhutan to this report: Bhutan Internet Usage and Telecommunications Reports. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
      We also get more visits from Greenland than that and I often see Thule airbase in Northern Greenland appear on our Woopra live analytics package making it our most northerly visitor

      I agree, @FN-GM should get out more, and as he sits at the desk across from me it would also mean that I didn't have to listen to him going through the Duran Duran repertoire quite so often.

      As promised here are some more stats for you all to chew over:

      Total server data transferred (in and out): 9,271.213 GB
      Data delivered from one of our CDN networks: 3000 GB

      Mobile stats:

      • Visits: 519,694



      Top 3 Devices:

      • Apple iPad - 183,850
      • Apple iPhone - 160,777
      • Net Set* - 43,447

      • iOS - 236,142
      • Android - 140,608
      • iPad - 62,667


      Top 3 Mobile Device Branding:

      • Apple - 355,882 visits
      • Samsung - 44,872
      • Net Set* - 43,447


      *We suspect that the Google Analytics' 'Not Set' tag is applied to devices where either it had been modified by installing a customised/hacked OS such as Cyanogen Mod or has not been set correctly by the manufacturer.

      Please note that several stats do not tie up neatly as regards to Apple and the iOS/iPad. This is down to the fact that Google changed the way Analytics' reported Apple mobile devices in June last year, so what we are showing is a mixture of the 'old' and 'new' systems that was fed back to us when we ran the report.       If you are interested, Blackberry came in at #5 and Windows Phone at #7. These would have been listed as 3 and 4 respectively in the OS list had all Apple mobile devices been shown as iOS.
      We would have also shown the SonyEricsson LT15i Experia Arc as being listed at #3 in devices closely followed by the Samsung Galaxy SII in the #4 slot.

      Perhaps. Go back 12 months and the iPad was pretty much the only kid on the block. I shall do a review of these stats in June, because with Windows 8 and decent Android tablets now widespread I think that the tables will tun slightly by then.
