• EduGeek Preston Conference 2011

It's that time of year again when we invite you all to make you way up, down and across to Preston in Lancashire on Thursday 2nd of June for a day of informed talks from companies specialising in education and other areas, socialising and meeting the site sponsors and being pampered by us.

This year we also have a change of venue as we have now adopted the University of Central Lancashire's Westleigh Conference Centre as our new venue location this year. Just a 5 minutes’ drive from the Ibis hotel it means no more trekking to Chorley and booking coaches. As always, the conference is free as we shall keep you up to date on speakers as and when we can confirm them. Please note we have booked 80 seats, so it's first come first served and booking is being handled via EventBright.

    Register Here

    Confirmed speakers are:

    • Dell (courtesy of Joskos) - Demonstrating the Dell Kace automation system
    • Lancaster University Network Services - Schools and independent internet connections
    • Rick Byers - The Data Protection Act - Myths and Musts
    • Adobe - Adobe products and support
    • AEG - UPS and power management
    • SmoothWall - Netcap

We shall also have tables exhibiting products and services from our speakers and other companies. These include:

    ICT-Direct
    SmoothWall
    Joskos/Dell
    Meru
    Net-Ctrl
    LUNS
    Adobe
    Invictus Technology/Zybert Computing

    Travel and hotels

As usual we recommend that you stay at the Ibis Preston North which is comfortable, cheap and a mere 5 minute drive from the venue: http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-31...rth/index.shtm

The venue is easy to get to and you can get the location and directions from this site here:
    http://www.uclan.ac.uk/information/s...ces/travel.php

And for those of you using sat-nav you can use this address to find your way:

    Westleigh Conference Centre
    Lea Road
    PR4 0RB Preston

    For those that cannot attend
We will be streaming the conference online courtesy of Adobe and Adobe Connect. More details are to follow about the streaming service.

If you have a ticket but cannot attend after all
Please please contact us ASAP as we can usually allocate your space to another member, the sooner you let us know the faster we can fill the vacant slot.

Sorry for trying to help, I won't bother next time. Also is it common practice on this forum for a moderator to respond in this way?

I suspect that comment was missing a smiley and not in a "have a pop" way.

Frosty I don't really see any difference bewteen you pointing out a mistake in the original and someone pointing out one in your reply.

Nothing wrong in the reply tbh and Witch is one of the resident spelling/grammar scouts

I was simply trying to help EG with an obvious error on a banner on the homepage. I even suggested that you delete my comment as I wasn't sure how to contact you re the error I had discovered. How should I have made you aware of the error without sounding like I was taking a swipe? I am sure btw that EG moderators have better things to do than post humiliating comments back? EG has resident Spelling/Grammar scouts? Do posters really want to be corrected or are they looking to get help in the EG community?

Anyhow, sorry to the EG community for my original post if any offence was taken it was not intended.

Hi frosty... don't worry, you haven't upset anyone seriously. There are several of us grammar pedants around already and we all cause a few sighs as we spot the obvious mistakes and keep ZH on his toes

There is also a chance that the tyop was intentional ... after all, EG has a history of intentional tyops! Honest!

Sorry if I upset you, Frosty, but I was just commenting in the same vein as you and maybe you haven't been around edugeek long enough to understand the way we joke about grammar and spelling.
We are always having a go at each other for correcting other people's posts and then making a mistake themselves -(see above)- we just think it is amusing
Also, commenting on Dos_Box's spelling and grammar could drive you to drink if you are not already there Hence the pedantic geeks group.

*I won't be at the conference as it is at least 5 hours drive or about a week on the train as well as ridiculously expensive. I can't convince either school to pay any of it..

Is there going to be a live video feed as last year that we could pop on and watch? I might not be making it this year.
