• EduGeek Preston Conference 2011

It's that time of year again when we invite you all to make you way up, down and across to Preston in Lancashire on Thursday 2nd of June for a day of informed talks from companies specialising in education and other areas, socialising and meeting the site sponsors and being pampered by us.

This year we also have a change of venue as we have now adopted the University of Central Lancashire's Westleigh Conference Centre as our new venue location this year. Just a 5 minutesí drive from the Ibis hotel it means no more trekking to Chorley and booking coaches. As always, the conference is free as we shall keep you up to date on speakers as and when we can confirm them. Please note we have booked 80 seats, so it's first come first served and booking is being handled via EventBright.

    Register Here

    Confirmed speakers are:

    • Dell (courtesy of Joskos) - Demonstrating the Dell Kace automation system
    • Lancaster University Network Services - Schools and independent internet connections
    • Rick Byers - The Data Protection Act - Myths and Musts
    • Adobe - Adobe products and support
    • AEG - UPS and power management
    • SmoothWall - Netcap

We shall also have tables exhibiting products and services from our speakers and other companies. These include:

    ICT-Direct
    SmoothWall
    Joskos/Dell
    Meru
    Net-Ctrl
    LUNS
    Adobe
    Invictus Technology/Zybert Computing

    Travel and hotels

As usual we recommend that you stay at the Ibis Preston North which is comfortable, cheap and a mere 5 minute drive from the venue: http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-31...rth/index.shtm

The venue is easy to get to and you can get the location and directions from this site here:
    http://www.uclan.ac.uk/information/s...ces/travel.php

And for those of you using sat-nav you can use this address to find your way:

    Westleigh Conference Centre
    Lea Road
    PR4 0RB Preston

    For those that cannot attend
We will be streaming the conference online courtesy of Adobe and Adobe Connect. More details are to follow about the streaming service.

If you have a ticket but cannot attend after all
Please please contact us ASAP as we can usually allocate your space to another member, the sooner you let us know the faster we can fill the vacant slot.

The problem we have is that we have the exhibitors, who are mainly made up of the companies speaking at the conf had been asked months ago wheather they would like to attend, and the remainder from existing sponsors have the existing 'commercial' slots. Anyone else attending from a private company, and there to represent their coompany would, in essence, be taking up a space that would otherwise be filled by an EduGeek member, and seeing as we (EduGeek) pay for all of the conference attendees we would in fact be paying for a commercial company to attend free of charge with us picking up the bill. That is not to say we cannot get something arranged possibly, it's just we need to ensure all slots are filled by members first.

Easy tbh... i suspect you will be able to share a lift/taxi with someone from the hotel to thte conference and the station to the hotel is under £10 by taxi (bus is even possible!)

Need to find out if I can attend this. Building handover for us is that week so depending on various things happening (power, data, telephones being in place!) I may not be able to come

Station to hotel is a 10 min taxi.

I walked Station -> hotel last year (it was a nice day!) but wouldn`t recommend it. I also walked back to the Station as I picked the wrong bus route.

Not sure about the conference venue as it's new this year...

It's a 5 mile walk from the station to the hotel. A bus journey (number 22,23 from outside the Dog and Partridge on Friargate) is 10 mins and costs £1.40 to Black Bull lights, and a 4 min walk from there.
The Dog and Partridge is a few mins walk from the train station.

      That banner at the top:

Maybe a bit pedantic, but if the tickets are free, they're not on sale... they're available.

Wild camping is that, camping on wild lands. You can stretch it for 2 weeks if you really wanted too, but by that point you'd be damaging the surrounding

I camp loads of times on public land and I've never got into trouble? I never even knew this was a law, the police drove past once and we never had any
