Apple Adds Malware Detection
Security firm Sophos has reported that malware detection has been added to OSX 10.6.4
(AKA Snow Leopard). The update detects the HellRTS trojan which disguises itself as iPhoto, an image editing application bundled with OSX.
However, Sophos have reported that the malware detection only works on downloads from the Internet and does not cover all the various items of Mac-oriented malware currently in circulation. The article also showed a video of malware being succesfully run from a memory stick without any of OSX's in-built protection picking it up.
So while threats from the Internet appear to be covered by Apple, steps still need to be taken to protect Apple-based computer labs from other avenues of attack.
