Hi Guys
I just had a member of staff come to me claiming to have been on sparklebox in school a few weeks back.
I just wanted to confirm the policy about sparklebox that no one in schools should be visiting the site and if they do it should be blocked?
Thanks guys
will also contact the kirklees helpdesk to make sure there wasnt a breach in the block or something.

4th November 2011, 07:58 AM #3 Hi,
YHGfL block Sparklebox for all users who take filtering services from us, however we don't provide the filtering for Kirklees schools. You would be best to speak to the Kirklees schools team to find out their stance on this matter.
Regards
Marc

6th December 2011, 12:09 PM #4 we just had this from our LA:
Summary
The position regarding the use of SparkleBox in schools
We have received enquiries from schools regarding the use of Sparklebox.
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection arm of the Police have given the following advice.
"As per previous Press statements, the owner of Sparklebox, Daniel Kinge, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison following charges brought by West Mercia Police. As such, CEOP feels that schools could look to resume their use of the website in line with their normal risk assessment and management policies and in consultation with their local authority."
While in East Sussex the county-wide block on Sparklebox will remain active, if schools wish to use Sparklebox, they should contact Schools
ICT Support and requests will be dealt with on a site-by-site basis.

6th December 2011, 12:32 PM #5 CEOPS have said "no" in the past, and it will remain blocked here until CEOPS say otherwise. Simples.
Less simples is what the school's policy regarding the use of resources which teachers have downloaded from home, but that isn't my decision to make.
