Problems on all proxies this morning

Are there issues this morning with YHGfL proxies? Have reported to EdIT helpdesk that libproxy went down this morning, somepoint before 8am. Secondaryproxy failed for us around 8.50.

It's JUST starting to settle and work again now...

... and then it went again this afternoon? Same problem here - our help desk said that there were proxies dropping off at random intervals. I was trying to deliver some training about the VLE - not amused.

    Hi,

Sorry it has taken so long to reply, but we have been concentrating on fixing the issues of the last few days.

It seems that a number of schools have had malware issues which have adversely affected the whole of YHGfL, making internet browsing particularly slow as it had caused us issues with our filtering platform.

As of 11.10am today, we believe that these issues have been resolved, but we are still monitoring for any new occurrences.

    Marc

Thanks Marc, it has been better today but dropped connections are still happening at odd intervals.

What settings are you using Leco? Our problems were only affecting part of the filtering platform, so using the login.yhgfl.net details, you could avoid the problems on the affected filter boxes.

It was primarily our staff servers that had the problems with malware over the last couple of days, which had the unfortunate effect of causing problems for pretty much every school on the grid.

We have been working with the Local Authorities and the affected sites to ensure that measures have been taken to prevent this happening again.

    Hi Dom,

Have you reported this to your Local Authority?

    Hi Dom,

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, its just we require all faults and issues to be logged through the Local Authorities that you belong to, just so everyone is aware of what is going on and if there are problems at multiple sites, we can identify any common issues quicker.

I only have one login that I know of - primaryproxy - it's the domain default everyone is on that.

    Hi Leco,

Calderdale CYPS should be able to provide you with different settings to change to a different part of our filtering solution.

You should be able to request a number of different proxy settings from them with settings suitable for all levels of education starting at primary school, through six-form up to totally unfiltered.

    Hope that helps?

Thanks for this Marc. It would certainly help if I had different settings for pupils/staff/management and technical.

Will put in a request to the ICT Helpdesk when I'm back in school on Monday.

    Hi Leco

You do currently have different different settings on admin and curriculum ranges as default. Staff have a staff level of access which is quite high, where curriculum ranges are defaulted to the level of the school.

There are no specific levels for technical, but if you speak to CYPS they should be able to advise you on what is available.

As standard, this is all set by IP address here at yhgfl, but logins are available to change on an individual basis.

    Marc
