LAN VoIP or similar
Hi there.
All teachers in their classrooms have laptops. All the laptops have speakers and a built in mic, and almost all the teachers have said how it'dbe nice to be able to quickly contact other staff members.
They all have internal email but its not used as much as it should be, and efforts to promote its use have only resulted in two or three more staff members using it.
Is there any form of, for example, Skype-Like software, that can work over an LAN be it centralised or decentralised, and if there is, how would people suggest I get over the problem of diverting calls to a certain room depending on where a certain teacher is?
Thanks.

Re: LAN VoIP or similar
Asterisk is the obvious one that is mentioned a lot on the forums. But, haven't you already asked this question before?

Re: LAN VoIP or similar
Of course the other option would be an internal instant messenger, like wildfire server and spark

Openfire server using your active directory for user logins and I'm using spark as my client would work nicely.

Yeah I've asked this question before but in a slightly different context!
An instant messenger sounds like an interesting idea, however, the laptops arent on a domain, and as such no AD.

Thats fine you can use openfires built in database and populate it with username/password combos.
