I'm hearing (and reading) some really good things about this.
I've scanned the forum(s) and still have a few questions, does anyone here use this as their every day Wifi?
Can it support densities of 10 laptops/PCs and up? If so over how many APs?
Whats the roaming like?
How does it handle and deal with rouge wifi APs from surrounding houses?
Is this too good to be true? A whole site coverage for 1/10 of a full managed service?
Looking onto UniFi as well. Just ordered a 3 pack of APs from Misco for a 3rd of the price of 1 RUCKS AP. Looking forward to seeing how they cope with trolleys of netbooks.
I think im going to do the same, £100 for 3 APs is great, id buy them from the school to use at home if they didn't live up to the high demands of a primary ;) haha
We've been trialling them here, ready to install in our boarding house when the refurb is finished - performance is on a par with the unmanaged Netgear prosafe AP's we have used in the past plus they add roaming between AP's, Management controller, guest network ootb and they're cheaper... what's not to like really? They seem reliable so far to us...
Ive just deployed a 3 pack of the Unifi kit, have had 30+ tablets connected to 1 access point with no dropping out at all, granted they were only browsing the web but its a good start!!
Just a bit unfortunate the price of the Unifi Pro version is £180 odd, for those of us who want PoE without the damn external injectors :(

For the price, the UniFi system is excellent but as always you get what you pay for. The server software does not have a lot of the benefits you will find with a hardware controller and is instead more of a management tool. For example you wont get intelligent load balancing, client handover or dynamic power adjustments. If you are on a budget though they certainly have their place :)
New to this forum, good day all - it seems the UniFi stuff causes eyebrows going up and down and question about the pricing and the abilities and disadvantages it provides.
Initially I wanted to join the crowd of other schools in our area who standardized on all-Cisco and the AP-1142N. I agree that Cisco is really solid but their price is too ;)
After playing with 2 Cisco APs (not lightweight ones) and then 2 UAPs I have realized that I have spent n-times more time reading documentation to get the Ciscos barely running than the UAPs.
I see UAPs offer far less capabilities but they seem to provide "just what we need". I'm still guessing - also whether Ubiquiti stocks are good enough to get a pile of them when we'd need them.
Is it gigabit or just 10/100 currently?

UAP-Pro has 1Gbit, UAP has 100Mbit uplink.
So yes, comparing the UAP against a Cisco 1142N which has 1Gbit uplink is a bit unfair (and the Cisco is a dualband device too as is the UAP-Pro).
