Re: THe Wireless Question!
Conspiracy theory perhaps but I just voted on the BBC news poll about this and was the only vote! Now I know they had it running earlier as I voted then too!
I did a quick copy:

Are you concerned about wi-fi safety?
Yes

No

Perhaps they weren't happy with the first set of results and decided to reset it?
Re: The Wireless Question!
Based on the post in the other thread from Vegas I have typed it up and added another line about some common sense stuff.
Anyone want to add anything else?
Re: THe Wireless Question!
Panarama - not sure it's right spelling
When looking for sensible health advice for use of laptops one of the best hast to be..............
remove the 't'
This is actually to do with the heat generated by the computer and a number of laptops have the vents on the bottom.
Possibly change this to read:
This is actually to do with the fact that heat is generated by the laptop and is usually vented through the bottom.
:D

Re: THe Wireless Question!
Since speaking with our LA Health and Safety Dept we have also now added:
'The above conforms to Gloucestershire County Council
Health and Safety Guidelines'
Re: THe Wireless Question!
We will continue to use wireless here untill told otherwise specifically by the LEA.

Re: THe Wireless Question!
Panarama annoys me, there programs are always flawed in someway or another. Like the one the other night, they measured the radiation from a mobile phone mask by standing with the radiation reader thingy(yes im no scientist). No mobile phone in their hand what so ever. Yet in the classroom they were next to a laptop connected to a wireless AP measuing it.
Surely its common sense that when your next to an active client theres going to be more communications, meaning more radiation.
Just annoys me that they give what could be false figures, im sure the radiation would be far higher if he stood there talking to someone on the mobile phone.
Like i said im no scientist, but what do you lot think?
Re: The Wireless Question!
I have fixed the mistakes and shown it round to a few people. It has had the once over from Becta who agree that it appears to be a suitable statement that schools can issue and they have also pointed us at a statement on their website.
If you pass this via your Local Authority and they agree it is suitable please mention them in theis thread, or if your local authority has issued a statement then please put a link in this thread too.
A Big Thanks got to Vegas for his work on this.

Re: THe Wireless Question!
We'll be contuinuing with it in this school until we're actually told or forced not to have it. It would be a complete nightmare without the wireless system in this building, as over 200 machines are connected wirelessly to our network, it would be almost impossible to cable everywhere that has wireless computers at the moment!
Personally I don't think there's any significant health risk from such systems, certainly no more so that mobile phones and other systems that use high frequency transmitters. There's probably more severe health risks associated with actually using the computers such as RSI and radiation from CRT monitors if you still have them, but no one's creating a big fuss about these risks! Give it a few weeks/months and it'll probably all be forgotten about.
