Ethernet Private Circuit costs
Anybody have any idea how much one of these would cost for a 500 metre run. We want a network connection from our school to the youthclub, and make there PC's part of our system. Just wondering what the cheapest way to go about it would be? 10 Meg should be enough.
Re: Ethernet Private Circuit costs
Either a 100/1000mb fibre run, external CAT6 BT may install either or if you have line of sight a wireless point to point system (150mbps connection)
Prices from £1500 upwards I should think. I'll try and dig out some info if I can.

Also consider just getting a standard Internet connection then connecting them to your network over a point to point static VPN connection.

If only it was that easy. In staffordshire we have a group of monkeys running the county it unit, and the thought of opening up a port sends shivvers down their spin. They just would not do it, it would be a security risk :P they would say.

Ok, so put a standard internet connection in at your end too.
Re: Ethernet Private Circuit costs
I guess the LEA would say the same about that but then as longs as it's firewalled there is no issue.
Alternatively just don't tell them.
Depends on the contract you have with them for your Inet.

Given the situation Quackers has eluded too, it's unlikely they bothered to put such a clause in the contract or have the skill/ability/time to detect rogue network connections.
Regardless, if you configure your firewall well you can hide the connection perfectly. That is after all, the point of a firewall.
