Help - Wireless issues
We have been having problems with our 3Com wireless system for several weeks. We have a 3Com WX2200 controller with 45 3Com 2750 access points.
When the problem first began, we contacted 3Com who said we have a faulty controller. We were sent a new one which we installed, but we are still having the same problem. Access points are randomly failing, then a minute later connectivity is restored. Several minutes later, this same error may occur, or we could go a few days without the problem.
We have checked the logs on the HP 4208 switch that the controller is connected too, and there is a logged error at exactly the same time the wireless network fails.

Loss of Link on port A15
01-Feb-2010 09:20:33
Description:
The connection to the devices on port A15 has been lost.
Solution:
If the cable has been removed from the port, reattach the cable.
If the device attached by the cable is not active/on, troubleshoot that device.
If the port has been disabled on the other device, re-enable the port on the other device.
Other Possibilities:
The cable is damaged or severed. If so, replace the cable.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A15 is the port the wireless controller is connected to.
We have checked and tried all the normal things, faulty cables, loops etc but still to no avail.
We are also getting error logs on the switch for excessive broadcasts on the same port.
Can anybody help...Please!
Thanks

What software version is your WX running? Also do you use Wireless Switch Manager? (3WXM)

Currently on version 7.0.5.6.0. We do use the 3Com wireless manager software, but have also been using the web interface.
Thanks

Hmm, I had a memory leak problem on a 4400 a few weeks back which caused access points to drop, but upgrading to the latest version (7.x something) sorted that. You say you've had a replacement controller, so it's possibly not that that's causing it. How many ports does the 2200 have? You could try using another port and see how you get on with that. What about the patch lead that connects the controller to the switch? I've had dodgy cables cause similiar "dropped interfaces" before. How about your HP switch? Do you have a different switch you can try?
If all that fails, hook a serial upto your WX console and capture the buffered logs - this may provide further clues.

We have tried all the above - 2nd port on WX, new cable etc etc. Also updated firmware on HP switches - still noting. We currently have a 3Com engineer looking at the logs but they have been looking at these for some time now.
