We virtualised the core bursary servers last Summer, and also Exchange and SIMS.. this year, we will be doing the same to the Citrix farm.
I think it's working out very well, and of course, I don't have to worry about server hardware being difficult to replace.
We have load balanced servers running the VM's (VMWare) and a DR rack which has a mirror of the VM SAN and another VMWare server (for complete failover capability). If I was asked to do this using real iron, it would be a whole lot bigger I think...
ps.. I'm also Ian T. And I live in Sutton - weird huh?
Virtualise, virtualise, virtualise! (I would say that I'm a VCP ;) ).
Actually, I'm looking at pioneering the 'Virtualised Network Manager', hopefully this'll mean I can work from home :D
Hampton School in Middlesex (not far from Hampton Court) :)
Weirder and weirder.. :p
I am NM here, yes, and I do have MSN (profile updated for that now)
Setting up 4 Bl480c in a c7000, MSA 2012i array, 5412zl, virtual center and vi3 now :)
Ive got a c3000 with 4 bl460c and 4 sb40c storage on my desk that i am setting up with xenserver as we speak.
I cant figure out what netwrok cables to plug where though to get it to talk to the network properly:mad:
when you get 'onboard admin' up and running on the c3000 it'll tell you* what network card ports on each blade go to what passthrough/switch ports on the back.
* click on Device Bays, then port mapping and untick the network cards to show what NICs link to what ports.
I've just virtualized a whole lot of our servers, bestest thing ever :D
