In the future we might be looking into providing a wireless "hotspot" in our canteen for students (Adult Education) to get on Internet, VLE etc while waiting for a class.
I'd guess we'd need some way of registering who's on it etc so is there something you can buy for this purpose (or even a freebie ;) ) that would do the trick?
I dont know if you went to the educonf or not, but they had free wifi.. what they were using was quite good..
basically when you connect you get asked to log in or register.
everytime you want to use the net you have to log on with the account you created.
would that be what your after?
Setup a few APs (channels 1, 6, 11) with open wifi and then those into a switch...the switch into the m0n0wall/pfsense box.
Configure that with the built in captive portal and network settings...tell it to be a dhcp server on the interface connected to AP network.
Just set it up to whitelist the URLs that can be accessed (VLE, e-mail...bbc maybe etc)
I want to setup a hotspot for all 6th form students. We have a couple of A/B/G access points available to do so.
However, I do not want them trying to do anything other then visit pages on the internet. I don't want any port other then port 80 to be open. I know they try torrenting, playing multiplayer games, P2P etc.
I've just had a quick look at m0n0wall/pfsense and appears perfect for the job.
Does anyone else use this for that purpose?
