Does anyone know if there are issues connecting to BT mail servers from third party networks i.e. 3 mobile broadband or Virgin?
I have a question from a user who has a 3 mobile broadband connection but can access their POP email from BT Internet. My suspicion is that BT have denied access to third parties to prevent spam etc.
I have BT email and access it via webmail from anywhere. I believe there are issues with using POP on a non BT connection;
I had a similar problem with Tiscali - I could only receive and not send using POP if I wasn't using the Tiscali connection.
Most ISPs block SMTP from other networks to prevent malicious use of their mail servers.
Yup, you have to ring the BT braodband helpline and give them your domain that you wan to use for your email and they will add it to the allowed smpt stream, takes about 30 mins and you will then be able to send using your own email address.
I had done this about 4 weeks ago, they have it disabled by default. its free but you have to ask.
