Redirected My Documents
I have been trying to redirect my documents for two days now. Basically all i want to do is when a user opens word is see their home directory.
The folder structure we have:
Root >> Users (shared) >> Folder (for each year group) >> Home Directories
I think i have got my permissions correct.
Some times it works and then the user logs off then logs on later in the day at the same workstation and they have no home directory. Also I want the users to stop being able to browse the network by either the drop down menu or selecting the up one level button by the dialogue box within word.
I am making hard work of this but any help would be much appreciated.
I know i have already posted this topic before but i need help
The way we set ours up here was to map a drive using My Computer > tools > Map network drive (in our case we assigned it U:\) to the folder of the person needed (in your case e:\users$\year9\user ).
If you do that you can then just change the path of My documents to the same drive letter as the mapped drive (i.e. U:\).
Not had any problems with this so far (5 months in use).
Do you mean put this line in a batch file
net use h:\ \\servername\users$\year9\username
then put in group policy the mapped drive letter
Just got it to work but i logged off then back on and then it stopped working.
When it works it says in the look in drop down box \\servername\users$\year\username thats fine when you click on up one level it goes to the mapped drives then to the desktop and stops.
I thought i would log off and try it again but when i logged back in, i get just the username showing in the look in box and then the user can keep going up one level browsing the network and domain.
You need to turn off network browsing in GP as well.
Do you know where that object is in the GPO
