Can Receive But Cannot Send E-Mail
Bit of an odd one here. I have searched the site and found nothing similar so here goes:
We can receive but cannot send E-Mail. It became apparent that we had a problem at around 12:30 yesterday. We are getting a poor response when pinging our DNS server [averaging 8 - 12 ms] so perhaps that is related. I can't find the cause of the slow reponse from DNS. But I do not think that DNS alone could be the problem because logon times seem to be unaffected [If DNS was down logon would slow down or not be possible at all?]
Anyway back to the subject at hand: Anyone seen this problem? At the moment I am baffled.
I should have pointed out that our E-Mail is web-based: Although I can create this new thread and post it here I cannot create a new 'page' on my E-Mail account and send the message at my workstation or at the server. And this problem only affects messages with attachments.
Re: Can Receive But Cannot Send E-Mail
Have you phone you email provider, as its web based and obviously on more than one machine then its probably a fault on their end.
Could be wrong though but worth a shot.

It is affecting our Grid E-Mail provided by our ISP [HGfL RM EasyMail] and other web-based E-Mail too: Googlemail etc, so I think that might not be applicable. I have asked our Grid if there is a problem they know of and they say it must be our end.
Re: Can Receive But Cannot Send E-Mail
OK: An update: It now seems to be my user on the network that is affected. I am going to test it at home to see if it is purely a domain problem or something more....
Re: Can Receive But Cannot Send E-Mail
Have you tried a different user account then? If it is yours, then backup your work in your user account, delete it, put it back, copy work and see if that cures it ?
Or did i miss something there
Re: Can Receive But Cannot Send E-Mail
Another Domain Technician/Administrator has found she can send E-Mail when I cannot. Iam strting to think that it is something to do with my domain user preveting me from sending these messages with attachments [at the server or at my workstation] So I am going to try the same thing at home and hopefully eliminate one of the unknowns.
Re: Can Receive But Cannot Send E-Mail
OK. So now I know I can E-Mail with attachments from home [I didn't expect other result to be truthful]
So I guess it is something about my user on the domain at work, since a fellow technician can E-mail with attachments on the same domain. I guess I will just have to delete the user as accura2000 has suggested, but what could cause this?
Re: Can Receive But Cannot Send E-Mail
It could be just a corrupt username in the AD. I had a problem where a user could not logon, kept saying password incorrect although i had reset it 10 times. Only solution was to delete and put the user back on. Worked a treat.
It could also be something to do with your IE settings for your domain username, again the easiest solution i would say is to remove and place back the username in question.
