I am trying to find some documentation that states the legal requirements for school data back ups (what needs backing up, how long kept for etc etc).

can anyone point me in the direction of where I might get this?

    Re: Back-Ups

I too have been looking into data retention periods and have found my authority's policy. It has the recommended retention period (which varies from one year to fifty, depending on the type of data). However it doesn't indicate which periods are statutory and which are recommendations.

    Re: Back-Ups

i too was wondering about this a while back.. does it apply to email.. ie delted retionsion policy in Exchange.. or actuall files in peoples "My documents" or does it apply to the MIS?

if its like home drives bareing in minds the data on there can change from second to second.. how often should backups be made.. ie some one makes a doc at 10am on said day with snesitve info in... then at 4pm its deleted. its unlikely that it will be captured by a backup... if this information was required by some othere party are we expected to be able to deliver it??
