Perfectly real. Milton Keynes in the UK uses a similar system for there metropolitan wireless system.1 high power AP covers about a 1 mile radius and can have upto 8000 people on it. They have the APs intersected at key points so signal stays strong.

i've got a point to point link under my desk (it's about to get bolted to the side of the school) that is quite happy providing 10mb across about 20km, and the same company do a mesh system capable of basically covering as much ground as you have budget for....

Ruckus APs are more than happy working in long distances no issues![]()
