    Netgear WG602 v4

I just got one of these, for free, and every time I try to connect to it to set up WEP/WPA encryption I get "The connection was reset".

It was set up ready to use before I got it, but all I get when trying to connect to it is "the access point/router failed to respond".

I'm using a fully updated Vista Home Premium Laptop [Emachines E525].

When the access point is connected to my router directly I can see it's there, I get full signal and it says it's unencrypted, but I can't connect at all.

Can anyone shed some light on what could be causing this?

I would do a complete reset of the router (normally a little button or something similar) and see if you can connect using the default settings and work outwards from there

I've done that. It still has the name that was assigned to it but it's not unencrypted anymore. I need to get the I.P assigned to it by the place I got it from, to test that, but from that it says on the ipconfig when I have it attached, the default I.P is the one it's using.

Thats strange .. normally when you do a reset you get an unencrypted and open router. The IP is normally 192.168.1.0 or similar. To test these I normally get a laptop not connected to any network .. set it to the same ip range as the router and try to connect from it .. I do all of the setup .. encryption etc and the last thing is to change the IP to an assigned static one thats on my network ... as soon as you do that the laptop stops talking to it of course and you have to connect the router to your network ..
