3Com Baseline Plus 2952 - errors in log file?
Hi
We're encountering some gremlins on our system and I've been digging through some log files on the switches and see a few of these logged:
Jan 13 10:34:31:605 2011 MSTP Critical PFWD Instance 0's GigabitEthernet1/0/16 has been set to forwarding state!
Jan 13 10:34:31:599 2011 IFNET Warning LINK UPDOWN GigabitEthernet1/0/16: link status is UP
Jan 13 10:34:29:234 2011 IFNET Warning LINK UPDOWN GigabitEthernet1/0/16: link status is DOWN
Jan 13 10:34:06:789 2011 MSTP Critical PFWD Instance 0's GigabitEthernet1/0/16 has been set to forwarding state!
Jan 13 10:34:06:783 2011 IFNET Warning LINK UPDOWN GigabitEthernet1/0/16: link status is UP
Jan 13 10:34:04:394 2011 IFNET Warning LINK UPDOWN GigabitEthernet1/0/16: link status is DOWN
What would generate something appearing in the log files on a fairly common basis?
Thanks in advance!

13th January 2011, 12:01 PM #2 Looks like you have an iffy cable somewhere - "Warning LINK UPDOWN GigabitEthernet1/0/16: link status is DOWN" - Critical PFWD Instance 0's GigabitEthernet1/0/16 has been set to forwarding state! either that or you have a dodgy port - I'd try and test your cable since the port is fluctuating up / down.
Also if your switch supports spanning-tree just check the settings, See if it's compatible Spanning-tree with other switches - Make sure the port hasn't been blocked for any reason.
Hope this helps

3Com Logs
Hi
Sorry to revive an old thread but did you ever find a solution to your problem? We are experiencing a similar problem in one of our schools and just wondered if you had any suggestions?
Many Thanks
Andy
