    3Com WX Series WLAN Controllers

Thought I'd share this news with everyone who isn't already aware....The 3Com WX series of wireless controllers and there DMAPs for use with them have been discontinued by HP with immediate effect.

So if, like me, you have a site wide WLAN with 40 odd access points running on a 3Com WX I'd suggest you buy up any access points you may need (if you can find any). Either that or start planning to replace your existing system.

I got this news direct from 3Com (well HP).

Yes we are in the same boat as you. However i have heared that if you buy new wireless switches from trapeze you will be able to hold on to those AP's.
3com WX series is trapeze internally

bio is correct, the WX series from 3com is OEMd from Trapeze Networks. The Trapeze networks MX controllers will support 3com APs. There is also an option to reflash the 3com controllers with Trapeze firmware, you will then be able to keep up to date with the latest firmware release. If you need more information feel free to PM me or check our website at lan2lan.com

Sounds cool to me.. one extra question is it possible to have an 3com WX and an trapeze wireless controller in the same "ring" and support all features ?

It may be possible to get the controllers to speak to each other using the command line, but it's not possible to monitor both controllers from the management software (3com switch manager or Trapeze Ringmaster). If you did get both controllers to share info and share the APs it would also mean running old firmware on the Trapeze controller to match the 3Com. I've previously installed a Trapeze controller to control 3Com APs and used the old 3Com WX as a cold standby unit.
