Buying HP servers
Hi,
We are looking to get some server quotes, traditionally we have always bought from RM but we are going to try a few more providers- our LEA can quote us on Dell servers but I'm quite interested in getting some prices from HP as I've heard good things about their servers.
I've got a phone number for HP direct sales, but do they also accept email quotations and if so does anyone have an email address for them?
Thanks,
Daniel

28th May 2010, 02:13 PM #3 We just got a HP ProLiant ML350 G6 with Windows Server 2008 Standard from our LA it cost us around £5000.
Intel Xeon E5520 2.27Ghz
6GB Memory
2x 146GB SAS RAID 1 for OS
3x 300GB SAS RAID 5 for DATA
plus tape drive and all the rest of it... upgrade capabilities can go along way so it should last 3x aslong as our older servers.
I don't know an email sorry but there is an idea of price

We use a company called Casscom for our servers. Plus also look at the likes of Insight/ misco/bt business direct.
how bigger server are you looking at? I would recommend (and so would alot of people!) the DL380 range (i have 20 or so) which is a rack mounted server. one of mine which has 64gb ram and dual quad xeons runs about 12 servers at about a 40% load on both ram and cpu using KVM.
If you want a quote via email the email address of the guy i use is Damian@casscom.co.uk

It's just for a small network of about 10 computers, so it doesn't need to be anything beefy. It's going in an office so something small and quiet would be an advantage.
I've heard good things about the quality of HP servers so I'm keen to get them/ a HP reseller to give some prices
I'll give these re-sellers an email, I'm sure HP deal direct though they probably just sell off the shelf and don't want to deal with quotes for just one piece of kit

Hi Daniel
We've been buying HP for a very long time now and they are excellent servers! we have never had a break down and in most cases the servers comes with a 3 year warranty depending on the model you buy. We use a company called Millgate as they are HP gold partners and have always been cheaper than anyone elses quotes including HP (don't know they do this
).
We recently brought a HP G6 DL160 which was around £800 and works perfectly but you can get cheaper still i believe.

11th June 2010, 04:10 PM #8 All HP servers here, excellent kit.
I think the last one we bought came from Pro Brand. HP don't really do direct sales, they expect you to go through a reseller. This does however make it nice and easy to get like for like quotes.

Thanks for all your replies. It's funny, we did get a cold sales call from HP direct once but they never emailed the contact info back we asked for.
All these resellers are available, and it sounds as though they are much cheaper too!

11th June 2010, 04:31 PM #10 We bought our last batch of HP machines from their HP Direct team, and saved about 15% on the nearest reseller price. It varies I think!

15th June 2010, 12:45 PM #12 Were currently getting quotes together for an HP server of our own (DL165 G7) and Probrand have come out as our lowest price (by about £100 off the top price).
HP are always our preferance although for some strange reason we have a Dell storage server (which I can't complain about).

I use them quite a bit, too. excellent service and happy to run configurations past their server team to make sure everything is going to work.
We used to use SCC but they weren't as competitive - insight also do next day delivery (free)

For server space rackmount I generally look at the HP DL360, DL380/385 series. For smaller less mission critical tasks then the ML110/ML115 tower models aren't too bad. They do however only have software RAID (is that an issue with Windows and Linux having support in the OS?), one PSU etc..
HP generally only seller via resellers. Some companies who resell HP kit (sure they have contact details via website) European Electronique, Kelway, Servo.
