    dfs and nas storage

Is it possible to utilize NAS storage with DFS?

Seems I am having issues with replication.

Would liked to have used the NAS as one of the storage areas and replicated it with other storage areas.

    Thanks.

It requires support for DFS on the NAS device. What device have you got?
It works on the Sun S7000 storage boxes we have now, didn't work when we first got them.

QNAP 439U. I can make it a domain member and import all the users.

but server 2008 DFS management gives error "The member is running a down level Operating system" when trying to replicate.

Is there a way to work around this?

    Thanks

Have you checked for any firmware updates for your QNAP box, by the looks of it DFS support has only recently been added and looks like it may just be for share aggregation rather than replication.

What is share aggregation? Is this the answer for me.

I upgraded to the newest version firmware, really wanted to use dfs, this was the point of the storage really.

From your op, you want the replication bit. Replication allows you to have the same share on multiple servers which replicates between the servers. Share aggregation allows you to combine different shares shares into one new share.

    Hi,

Any chance of letting me know how you operate your NAS within DFS?

    Thanks
