Well - saw some ill effects today.

They were using them in one class and 2 of them (which were up and running suddenly disconnected and wouldn't re-connect - they said no wireless available )

Switching them off and on and they were fine.

I wish I could square the circle with some of these working for some of you and not working for others.

I keep on thinking that the people who say they are working have just not noticed them failing yet

When i say its working.. it works most of the time.. the number of times it fails (like you described) isnt as often as before.. its kinda random now.

I totally know how you feel though as thats what we have to put up with.. Ruckus kit is great when it works but getting it to work...

Did you try the driver and altering the client configs and ZD configs?

    I'm about to try it.

Today I tried just running with 1 AP to elimate roaming issues but I still had disconnections.

I've asked net-ctrl if its OK to switch off all the clever stuff (like scanning for rogues and auto adjusting power levels) but the've not got back to me

I'm thinking of setting up a plain Buffalo AP in one class and setting half the laptops to use that their primary AP but is it worth it when others have had them fail on non-ruckus

I've got a parent helper in today so in desparation I've got him to set all the N130s to use 11b instead of b/g/n just to see if that makes any diff !

    regards

    Simon

No - N130 refuses to install driver as it says what its got is the latest.

We'll see if the 11b setting does any good (or harm )

    Hi Guys,

Today we got 30 out, they all booted up to CTR ALT DEL screen.

26 of them connected first time, the other 4 needed a reboot and then they connected.

during the 1hr session 3 dropped out.

Im using same driver version, again when i try to upgrade it says i have same version.

    Things we are thinking about

the building is farly new and the roof openers are wireless
    hearing loop in the school
    wireless solar panels

does anyone else have these in there school ? worth asking just in case!

Maybe its worth chasing the manufacturer for a driver like we did, or uninstall your drivers and try the tosh ones?

As for turning off the clever stuff well we've turned off adjusting for rogues and auto power levels well on most APs its still on. There are a few with it off and manually set. All APs have been set with a channel manually.

Its so funny that it has all these clever technology thats suppose to make it work better but yet to get it working we're turning it all off and manually setting it.

BTW Ruckus Kit does not like other APs on the network so if you're thinking of running a Buffalo AP thats in sight of a Ruckus AP... problems.

    Maybe I'm not communicating well.

I CANT GET THE B*&^%^%Y DRIVERS TO CHANGE

    /RANT

    I feel better now.

At the moment I don't believe it is a Ruckus problem because the drivers seem so rubbish in not giving me the sort of options I'm used to with other devices.

jamesstoner is gettting practically identical problems with completely different wireless infrastructure.

I'm asking myself why there are two version of N130s - one with atheros wireless and ones with realtek???

And which ones are being manufactured now.?

Can I buy the other ones and put them in?

BUT THE BIG ONE IS WHY WHY WHY DID THE SCHOOL GO AND BUY 25 DIFFERENET NETBOOKS TO THE ONES I'D TRIED AND TESTED WITHOUT SPEAKING TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS I love the Samsung support advice - upgrade everything to latest - if that doesn't work - reset netbook back to original config and try that

Totally feel you pain, i was only responding to you earlier post that says:

N130 refuses to install driver as it says what its got is the latest.
I thought this meant you tried installing the driver (while the other driver was still on) and the system wouldnt install the tosh drivers because it detects it already had the latest drivers. If the system didnt have any drivers installed and was clean of these drivers then it cant possibly say it has a better driver because it doesnt have to begin with. By clean i mean removing all traces of the previous driver in safe mode... For example delete all traces of it in the usual places like:

    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
    C:\WINDOWS\system
EDIT: When we had the issues, we logged the case with Tosh and after alot of chasing we eventually got a new driver which worked better.

I did the same just now!! exactly the same.

for your info we are running windows XP Pro

Also FYI Realtek is for UK hardware and Atheros is for products from Europe.

we buy from C2000 and westcoast and they all come with realtek, if you buy from europe disty then atheros.

Si, has the tosh driver actually helped you ?

(There'll be many a chuckle from fellow Edugeekers over that question )

I don't think so - never heard of them

These are plain XP home netbooks - not in a domain - just working with a simple mapped drive on a server to save files.

    Phew!

I've got the school documenting failures every lunchtime/evening - got a call and a list of 13 NC10s that had failed to connect to network

Decided to divert to school ready to download logs to net-ctrl - got there and found they'd had electricians in who'd switched/tripped out the breaker powering the server - no ip - no internet hew:

    TGFT.

Taking one of the N130s home to try to get the little sucker to take a different Realtek driver!

    regards

    Simon
