Strange network problems?
OK, suddenly today things started to go rather weird, packet loss, Internet erratic so unable to find anything wrong with the servers, routers, wifi I thought I'd put the netbook out to sniff for a bit.
Low and behold Source 0.0.0.0 Dest 255.255.255.255 DHCP requests and acknowledgements all over the place?
The source MAC was an AXIS device well the only AXIS I have is the security camera in the workshop at the end of my garden which sits all on a segment of it's own.
Armed with tester of I go, checked workshop all good switches working all looking good tested the CAT5e link from workshop back to house Problem!
37Mtrs to Short/Open issues. Paced the run back to the house, the end of the conduit has been dug up and chewed through by foxes!
The tattered cables although completely knackered still managed to flood the network with unwanted traffic!
Now spliced and re-buried problem solved but just goes to show what can bring an otherwise rock solid network to it's knees!
