Blocking access to usb drives by hiding the icons in explorer is trivial to bypass.
From threads all over the web/listservs/usenet the only option is globally disabling removable media or a third party application.
Vista apparently has the functionality needed built in.

I know there are replies here, but I can't see them until I post a new reply. I know this because I replied to cc_topcat's question about which drives students need to see [again] and the rest of the replies popped up. I deleted my duplicated reply to cc_topcat and they disappeared. How odd!
So this is me posting a reply so that I can see the other replies that I currently cannot see.
