Go to a command window and type net use t: \\pathtofolder\folder

t: is the then the folder appearing as the root of a drive. You can also use this as a logon script.

    Re: Network shorcuts (root)

I take it that this is the share for SIMS and it has been setup as s:\sims\blah\blah ... and you want to stop people going into the root of the share and adding files & folders (or deleting them due to the permissions)

You should be able to just change the share to point to the SIMS folder but make sure you check shortcuts.

The other option is the change the permissions on the root of the share (NTFS Perms) and then put them back to what they were on the \sims folder and make sure they are inherited down ...

Almost This is a folder on the same drive as sims (server space issues, don't ask) so i want users to access s:\folder but not be able to travese , i have just managed to crack it.
    here is some syntax.
    %windir%\explorer.exe /e,/root,\\servername\share
this opens the folder and makes it the root so they can no longer traverse through that server.

Just spotted a problem with above: these shortcuts are located on a shared area refered to as f: so if i want access this shorcut i browse to f: click on the new shorcut and it works well however
when i go to file save a document in word, excel etc these shortcuts no longer appear?? so i can't open them to save anything in there??
