Yeah, I've noticed a bit of a gap there. I might have to get my hands dirty and write code..
What do you mean by 'general internet control' though?
I mean the ability to turn off rooms or computers or users. Also the ability to switch users between filter groups etc.Originally Posted by Geoff
I can see a way using Squid acls but that would mean DG and squid would be the wrong way round and can you still not pass on user info?
You really need to pop Dansguardian on there though as well webman as it doesnt rely on a list it filters on the content.
On that note, ChrisH, there's an addon for IPCop/Advproxy/URLFilter that has a per-classroom control for teachers.
I assume you mean me and not Ric_ . I have had a play with the CRE extensions before and yes they are good for shutting of a room and giving teachers the ability to if you really want to.
Yes, sorry Chris ops: It's the yellow avatar that did it, and not enough caffeine 8)Originally Posted by ChrisH
Anyone have any thoughts on Endian?

I'm about to get into this in a week or so when time allows. I have an internet connection for myself on the network by a second network card on my workstation which is connected into the ADSL router which I can remote access any tiem I need the net but there is an upcoming need for access for each machine in the ICT suites to run clait + exams and I'd like to get a head start on it. On brief research I fancied a smoothwall dansguardian setup but I must admit I was blissfully ignoring the authentication issue
advanced proxy will sort the authentication for you for smoothwall.

I was talking about this: Endian
It looks a lot like IP Cop with some extras build in, LDAP and NTLM authentication and a content filter. I was playing with it today until a headache got the better of me.
