I'm attempting to go through the process of building a new domain from scratch and I've gone for DC1, DC2, DC3, DC4, DataStore then other servers are academyPrintServe, academyDHCP, Etc. AV servers is just Eset-AV

our Physical servers are called ESX1, ESX2, and DC1

Strange selection of names but as we currently have 14 different servers as all roles and services are split where possible - the good thing about VM's

    tip

Whatever you do, don't prefix the name of the exchange server with the initials of the school if they end in an 's' like my predecessor did...

    xxxxsexchange does not look good...

Hmmm... that reminds me of the old Pen Island Company joke.... they registered their domain name: penisland.com

We are in the process of creating a completely new infrastructure and previously had DC01, DC02, MAILSERV01, SQL01 etc...

This time we decided to go for Greek Mythological names... now not only can people not remember the name but if they do happen to remember they can't say it or spell it... perfect...

lol i think there was a good episode of QI with PenIsland.com and some others. Can't remember them now but they look so innocent when they are CamelCased but must have slipped through the net when they were decided on!!

Naming them personal names helps. You remember them more easily!
