IP network cameras

We are paying for a professional security installation of Cameras. I managed to get the school to put in IP cameras as opposed to analogue ones!

So the installation will consist of 2 servers, 40 cameras and data cabinets all over the place.

My question is, who of you out there has an installation of ip cameras for security? How many do you have? What software do you use?

I would be interested to know how you find them in practise.
