    Is there a cheap and easy way to generate a map of the local network? I'd prefer something graphical, but Would settle for text output if needs must.

    3com's network director will also do this if you have managed switches (unmanaged switches show up as 'clouds').

    Take a look at 3Com network Supervisor, downloadable (free) for a 60 day trial, after which if you register online you can get a permanent key
