    Barracuda Spam Firewall

    Link: http://www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/...m_overview.php

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the above? A company is offering us that solution for 1500 mailboxes for about £8200 for three years then £4000 every three years after that. That works out at about £1.83 per mailbox per year initally and barely a pound per mailbox per year after that.

Compared to other solutions it seems much better value and a lot simpler to implement. What do you think?

Yes, I'm sure there are. But it all comes down to time again. That is a drop in solution, quick, convenient, pre configured with a friendly interface with regular supported updates. Doing it yourself might not cost any money but it isn't necessarily free either.

Agreed, but consider it takes you a week to build it and a weeks maintenence per year ( I guestimate ours does) then you still win as I bet you don't get paid £8200 for 3 weeks work. You could even afford to put it on fancy hardware.

    Re: Barracuda Spam Firewall

    Norphy,

Check out emailsystems, their products is very good and its cheaper we've been quoted around £1300 for 2000 user mailboxes. The price is an anual cost but i think they also do it cheaper if you take it out for 3 years or more.

www.emailsystems.com - very easy to use as its a web interface. Also this offloads all the processing of spam to their servers so you don't actually run any software on your mail server. You get the mx record changed to their servers so mail is delievered to their email servers, scanned and the delivered to your email server. Of course you can make you email server recieve emails only from the emailsystems.com servers so its always filtered. Also you can use them as your smarthost.

    HTH,

    Ashok.
