Re: Network not working
When i had a major problem similar tho this (caused by a blown fiber module AND a rogue computer causing the same issue at the same time) i jus pulled everything out and tested bit by bit. I plugged in the DC (my DC ran DNS/DHCP held all the FSMO roles etc) and directly patched my laptop. I then booted all the other servers one by one and checked DHCP (one of my symtoms was DHCP wouldnt work), added in the external link, then brought up each floor, one computer at a time. It meant a 16 hour workday but it got fixed.

Is there no-one else on EduGeek in Dorset that could pop down to the school and help?

Thanks for all that although I confess that I didn't understand some of it. I do try not to be intimidated by the level of knowledge on this forum, but sometimes it is hard! E1uSiV3 - I think I got the gist - You would find my life really easy as I only have one server anyway (but, come on, it is an NT4!)
I took everything off the switches and plugged in a laptop - turns out one of the switches is dead so that would explain that. Took it out and managed to do without it and all is well now.
As far as I can see there is only one other Edugeek member in Dorset - though I am happy to be proved wrong!

"turns out one of the switches is dead" Ok next step is to find out exactly whose fault it is and bill them for a new switch. They're not cheap.

@ITWITCH
..Sorry wasn't around much last week or would have offered to come and help. Didn't we speak via email some time ago about spare machines? If so, I still have stacks if you want some.... Glad you got it sorted though! Also have a couple of spare switches if you need one!!

Thanks all
Have passed info about dead switch to the powers that be but I doubt very much that anything will be done about it - there is no point shouting - been there, done that.
Cant really prove that it didnt just fail anyway.
Thanks for the offer to come and help.
