    Importing data to Active Directory

This isn't the usual how can I import users from a text file this time I already have 1300 users, and I want to import extra data for each of these. For example Joe Bloggs is on active directory under his user number 12345. number 12345 is his admission number in SIMS therefore I have exported a text file with the fields

Admission Number, Forename, Lastname (and a few more like address)

How, if any way, can I import this to the currently existing user accounts?

    Thanks

p.s i have the free IIFP installed http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en this is little brother of MIIS http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...3/default.mspx

Re: Importing data to Active Directory

If it was me I would probably use an ADSI script or look into something like ldife utility that you get from microsoft. You use or used to use the ldife utility on one of the MS courses.
I would probably go for an ADSI script personally. I have the book with all the field names in if you want any they are hard to find otherwise.
Look at some of the programs touted for bulk adding of users as well though as they might have some features you want.

I had to do a similar thing recently and used dsquery and dsmod. You can run a query on the user number and pipe the output to dsmod to add the extra details. It aint the prettiest solution but it works.

Re: Importing data to Active Directory

    I used NovaT4 and exported a list

Admission No, FirstName, SecondName, Yeargroup, Form / Tutor

    Then in Excel made

    Code:
dsmod user "CN=1234,OU=Students,OU=CollegeUsers,DC=xxxx,DC=xxxx,DC=sch,DC=uk" -fn Joe -ln	Bloggs -display 1234 -office 11AA
This way on copying it back to a text file I had 1300 lines and ran it ok

The Excel Sheet is attached to mod for your playing. Please rename it from .TXT to .XLS
