Access from home???
Hi,
I keep getting asked numerous times from staff/Heads about accessing school networks from home. CLEO is our provider and they have said that technicians may be able to VPN by Easter but certainly not staff.
I understand the security risks but isn't it common practice in business??
I just wondered if this is common around the country or do some schools/colleges etc have access from home.

If you just want a couple of people to do it - I'd recommend logmein as a cost free simple solution

Re: Access from home???
Something like that needs to get past NAT routers and ports and most staff I work with are not particulary tech savvy. Whilst products are available to do that, Echovnc springs to mind, I'm not sure how best pleased CLEO would be.
Mind you, I wouldn't be shouting about it :!:

Remote access will be made available about easter time to CLEO. Currently the intention is to allow it for techies only, not just because of the security risks, but just that fact it requires a bit of savvy to use and understand. Simply being dumped in at domain level with a CLEO IP address is not very intuative. There are several things you can do to provide a meaningful session, but unless you are going to use RDP, NetSupport Manager etc then they should have no need to be working servers remotely.
