If you are using my one then it would be a simple case of add the printer to the printers group and then add the print server to the servers group. If the print server is a windows box then you can monitor the print servers services also i.e. Print Spooler etc.

Why would you want that? Cant you just put the print server in the servers list and then the printers list!

I have got my teachers turning the printers off when they are not being used for a length of time (eg overnight) to save power. If i listed the printers half my list would be red!

Because i will list both printers and print server. they wont be able to work out that the printers wont work if the print server is offline, not matter how many times you tell them. Also if it shows the printer is online but the printer server isnít they will just look at the printer status and wonder why it isnít working.

so you could check servers (and related services)/switches/printers/wifi points/programs/internet access/any-all other things that could be checked remotely
You should be able to do this with Monit. You can get it to check ports etc.

This is good for keeping an eye on your servers internet/email wise - and cheap. I used to work with the guy who coded it.

Mail Flow Monitor: E-mail monitoring software

I also use MultiPing running continuously to keep an eye on network health.

Webman love your site, quick question about it what do you host on your intranet as a technical department? I am looking to ravamp ours and am trying to decide on what to publish about the network etc and what we do. Also how does the sims access work on your website? I would be interested to know how it's integrated.

    Thanks

Found this a while back but never got around to posting it on here

Download zip ( which contains a hta )

    http://dm4ever1.googlepages.com/ConnectivityMonitor.zip

    Original page

Ping (WMI & Non-WMI Versions) - Functions & Simple Connectivity Monitor

You may need to alter the hta coding slightly as the jpg files are not included unless someone can modify it and post it back with some jpg files ?

I altered it and basically added some text instead of the jpegs to say online, offline and error or something to that effect.

It should create a text file called hostslist.txt if not then just create a text file called hostslist.txt with the hostnames or ip addresses on each line that you want to monitor.

Find attached the modified one where I have gotten red, green and yellow or error or something ( all in the coding )

If anyone can modify this so it has a text field where you can enter in the amount of seconds you want the refresh rate to be so that it uses that instead of a fixed value in the coding , currently I think its set to 10000 which is 10 seconds ( 10,000 milli seconds )
