PDA (yet again) accessing network shares

Few weeks ago (just before Xmas) we were testing out a PDA and going via its file explorer we could tell it to open a path and use like \\server\share and it would prompt for user/pass and all was fine.
Now when we try it, put in \\server\share and it just says the network resource is unavailable. The PDA can still see the network, it can open webpages on the same server but not network shares.
To the best of my knowledge nothing has changed but I can't figure out why it can't do shares any more.
    Any ideas?

Ignore this, found the error. Windows mobile only likes connecting to hostnames not IPs. Stupid thing!!
