Could you use Powerline adapters and install an additional access point?

I use a TP-LINK TL-WA850RE 300Mbps Universal Wireless N Range Extender - I paid just under £30 for one at Asda but they now appear to be around £25 as it looks like they've been replaced with a new model that supports AC.

I use mine upstairs where right in the corner of my bedroom I get a perfect signal but as soon as I move to where my desk is it drops very rapidly so I have my Wireless Extender in the corner (it's plugged in to an extension lead) and then that gives me full signal throughout the whole of upstairs. It has an Ethernet port so I have a switch connected to that for my Ethernet devices to get internet access.

This !! That's how I would do it assuming your electric wiring is ok and on the same circuit

Will that give me an extended wifi range or just an ethernet port to plug into?

Cheap Laptops, Tablet PC, and Cheap LED TVs | Ebuyer.com

Get a starter kit - the one I was looking at was this one ( without wireless )

Devolo dLAN 500 - Mini Duo Powerline Starter Kit | Ebuyer.com

    Devolo with wireless

You can get powerline adapters that have wireless as well, although as per Edu-IT's comment, he suggested to get the power line adaptors and use a seperate wireless access point

Entirely up to you which power line adapters you want to get ( a pair with or a pair without wireless )

You can get other makes of power line adapters ie TP Link etc which will be cheaper but then am not sure how good or bad they are

Obviously if you go for the one without then you will need a separate wireless access point

Unless you don't require wireless and you can just hook network cable into the power line adapter and if you want more network points , then you would need a network switch connected into the power line adapter RJ45 port and do it that way but that's a given obvious anyway

Ive gone with TP Link at home and it works a treat. I would not use it outside of a domestic environment though.
