    3x3:3 vs 2x2:2

    Hello,
    I'm looking at deploying a managed wireless solution and trying to decide whether I should pay more for 3x3:3. We are looking to introduce BYOD and deploying a tablet of some description possibly an Ipad. Can you explain what advantages I would see with a 3x3:3 or will a 2x2:2 device be suitable enough, the system is to last 5+ years.

    3x3:3 will give you greater data throughput anything from 600 or 900mb/s. Like our ruckus 7982 APs

    2x2:2 for example like our ruckus 7363 run to a max 450mb/s.

    Our 3x3:3 APs allow upto 500 client connections, our 2x2:2 will allow up to 100. All theoretical data from the manufacturer.

    Also note that the hardware the client device has will dictate the speeds reached.

    A 2x2:2 Mimo configuration will reach around 300mbps max theoretical.

    A 3x3:3 Mimo configuration will only reach 450mbps max theoretical in most configurations.

    thanks for your input i'm just trying to decided what ruckus APs to put in to support BYOD we are only a small high school with 300 students.

    Also don't forget that you will require the backbone wired capacity to allow those speeds to aggregate through your network so 10GB switches with 1GB ports and 10GB backbone to support all the added bandwith,

    You have probably done all this beforehand but some schools have not got the cash to upgrade their infrastructure to this degree and this is where they meet the first hurdle.

    450mbps per radio, so the ruckus will do 450 on 2.4 and 450 on 5ghz (900 in total)

    We have around 22 procurve switches all connected via gig fiber and on gig backbone. All APs will be connected on gig connections.

    Do you think we are going to fail without a 10gib backbone? We have no funding for this!!!

    Many schools and enterprises for that matter often spend more money on their WLAN without the investment in their LAN infrastructure. This can only have one result - moaning managament "You've spent all this money on a WLAN and it's rubbish". Call in a reputable network solutions company and have your current LAN and future WLAN requirements assesed at no cost. Without that assessment you could make an expensive mistake.
