    Help setting up wireless network

My neighbour just has Sky broadband fitted. The router is plugged into the main phone line near the TV. It has two ports on it for hard wire devices. He has tried to move it to another connection in the house but it looses download speed when not plugged into the main phone line.

So he is going to leave it by the TV. Problem is ihe has have two PCs, print server and two buffalo HD that connect via wired LAN. What he would like is to have all these connected to a 5 port hub which then connect to a wireless device which in turn connects to the router in the lounge.

    Can this be done ?

I have no idea what to do now, He wants all the kit upstairs to be hard wired other wise he looses the ability to connect to all devices as their is no dedicated phone point in his room.

I read about using a AP as a repeater buthis is over my head. I wouldlike to help him to set this up but i need help myself

Re: Help setting up wireless network

You want something like a Wifi Ethernet Bridge. I have a linksys one that i'm trying to sell at the moment (not trying to sell it to you though don't worry).

Linksys WET54G-UK Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge I used to use it to connect my web server in my dad's garage to the wifi network and then onto the internet. It worked quite well.

You can take the ethernet from the bridge and connect it to a switch to bridge a smaller remote network onto a main network running a wifi AP like your router for example.

I like the look of the devices that turn your electricity wires into a local area network!

I know he's already got a print server but the Netgear WGPS606 http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_pr...er_wgps606.php will do what he wants and be a print server as well.
