    Internet Explorer Version 7

I have a created a fresh new image with XP pro and IE7. When an adminstrator logs in and runs IE7 the home page comes up straight away. But when a pupil a logs in its says in the bottom left hand corner detecting proxy settings and takes roughly 30 seconds before the home page appears. I have checked the group policy and unticked "Automatically detect settings" and then ticked it but makes no difference.

    Any ideas would be great!

    Thanks

Try unchecking the automatically detect and enter the proxy details in the "Proxy Server" settings

    Re: Internet Explorer Version 7

we've had a problem with that to

    remove the manatory profile
    remove the student gpo
login as a student and run IE7
then re apply the profile and GPO

i think it updates the profile with IE7 settings and then works

this is just what ive been told by someone whos fixed it for us, his words not mine

EDIT: also do you have the IE7 ADM? not sure if its a requirement but might be worth installing

Thanks for your advice but it is still taking a conisderable long time to load. Its out locl intranet page as well. The external sites load faster (Ha Ha) I have put the site into the exceptions in the IE7.adm.

Had a similar problem, even after setting the proxy setting in the policy.
I knocked up a quick AutoIT launch script which speeded things up....
You could do this or something else in VB I suppose...
    RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Int ernet Explorer\Main", "First Home Page", "REG_SZ", "http://www.google.co.uk")
    RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Int ernet Explorer\Main", "Start Page", "REG_SZ", "http://www.google.co.uk")
    RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Win dows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings", "ProxyServer", "REG_SZ", "YOURPROXY SERVER:PORT")
    RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Win dows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings", "Proxyenable", "REG_DWORD", "1")
    RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Win dows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings", "ProxyOverride", "REG_SZ", "intranet")
    Run('C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe')

    Thanks everyone for you help.

I have resolved it, in Group policy there is a item Primary DNS Suffix within computer configuration, i just put our dn,cn,cn and restarted the workstation and it works.

    Once again thanks
